Firestone, 62, of 201 Church Drive, Irwin, died April 23, 1995, at his residence. Born March 19, 1933 at Normalville, a son of the late Russell K. and Muriel Sue Wells Firestone. He was a 1950 graduate of Connellsville High School in 1950. Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Alaska during the Korean Conflict. He enlisted in the State Police in 1956 and served in Troops A, B, C, and D at Punxsutawney, Clarion, Clearfield, Butler, Kittanning, Warrendale, Greensburg, New Kensington, Somerset, Pittsburgh, Washington, Carnegie, Uniontown, and Belle Vernon. He was promoted to sergeant in 1969 and served as Station Commander at Warrendale and Carnegie and for the last 12 years of his career was commander of the Belle Vernon Substation. He was a member of the Pa. State Police Rodeo Exhibition from 1957 to 1960. He retired in 1990 with 34 years of service. He was a member of the National Trail Lodge 47, Fraternal Order of Police, at Washington, Pa., was a life member of VFW Post 7812 of West Newton, Pa., the Normalville Rod and Gun Club, and St. Edwards R. C. Church of Herminie. Surviving is his wife, Leonore Gismondi Firestone; a daughter, Blaney-Cay Firestone, R.N. at Western Pa. Hospital, Pittsburgh, and 3 brothers: James C. Firestone of Genoa, Ohio, and Thomas M. and Robert "Dick" Firestone, both of Normalville. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, William D. "Snuffy" Firestone. Friends will be received at the Brooks Funeral Home Inc., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, Pa. from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. A blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home, followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist R. C. Church at 416 South Broadway, Scottsdale, Pa., with Rev. Emil S. Payer as celebrant. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery. Daily American, April 24, 1995 [F0319]
