All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ SAMUEL FIRL Samuel Firl, of Summit Mills, aged 60 years and 24 days, died in the Wenzel Hospital on Friday, May 15, at 4:45 p.m., following a four weeks' illness. Cause of death was attributed to apoplexy. Mr. Firl, who was born in Somerset County on February 21, 1882, was the son of Samuel and Mary (Fullem) Firl. He was a lifelong resident of Summit Township and was employed as a coal miner at the Gnagey Mines in Pine Hill, prior to his illness. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ida (Maust) Firl; four sons, Earl E., Central City; Lloyd and Carl, Summit Mills, and Ray, Camp Eunston, Kans.; four daughters, Mrs. Russell Yoder, Mrs. Paul Trexel, Mrs. Merle LaRue and Miss Ethel Firl, all of Summit Mills; one brother, Urias, Summit Mills and one sister, Mrs. Adam Maust, Summit Mills. Eight grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were conducted on Monday afternoon, May 18, at 2:30 o'clock at the Brethren Church in Summit Mills. Rev. O. A. Lorenz, assisted by Rev. A. J. Forry were in charge of the services. Interment was made in the St. Paul Cemetery under the direction of W. C. Price and Son, local morticians. Meyersdale Republican, May 21, 1942
