Fisher, 78, of Meyersdale, died Feb. 5, 2002 at Beverly Healthcare, Meyersdale. Born Dec. 8, 1923 in Berlin. A son of the late Alex and Darlie (Ross) Fisher. He was preceded in death by brothers Dennis Lewis "Polly," Harry, Victor, Glenn and Archie and sisters, Mary Ohler and Myrtle "Toots" Harding. Surviving are his wife, Joan (Gordon) Fisher, one daughter, Judy Shumaker and husband Ron of Meyersdale; three sons, George Jr. "Porge" and wife Debra (Fleck) of Coatsville, Joe and wife Debra (Dively) of Latrobe and John "Mick" of Meyersdale; seven grandchildren, Diane Belcher and Denise Clapper, both of Meyersdale, James Younkin of Maiden, N.C., Jessica Shumaker of Downingtown, Pa., Michelle Evans and Jason Fisher, both of Phoenixville, Pa. and Kelli Jo Fisher of Latrobe; seven great-grandchildren, Kendra Clapper, Patrick Lowery, Dylan and Chris Belcher, Alyssa and Alex Younkin and Kerrigan Evans; two sisters, Katherine Bender of Ohio and Pearl Yoder of Meyersdale; eight nephews; five nieces and dear family friend, Dana Menser. He was a member of the Meyersdale Main Street Brethren Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and pianist, church organist, deacon and trustee. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of the Meyersdale American Legion, past member of the Berlin Fife and Drum Corps, former member of the Meyersdale Rotary Club and past mayor of Meyersdale. He was the owner and operator of Fisher Music Center in Meyersdale. Also employed by Penn Furniture in Somerset and Ott Music and Christian Book Store in LaVale, Md. Through his musical career, he had the opportunity to play for three presidents including, Lyndon Johnson, Dwight Eisenhower and Richard Nixon. He also served as past organist for the Maple Queen Contest. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing music. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the M. Ray Leckemby Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Meyersdale Main Street Brethren Church, Pastor Robert Stahl officiating. Interment, Union Cemetery, Meyersdale.
