Fisher, Sr., 81, pioneer teacher and educator of Oakland and Alameda County, California, public schools, who retired last fall after more than forty years of service, died recently at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Laughland, in Oakland, Cal., following a brief illness. Prof. Fisher was County Superintendent of Schools of Alameda County, principal of the old Oakland High School and later served as principal of the new Technical High School. In 1925 he was named superintendent of public instruction for Oakland schools. He is survived by Philip M. Fisher, Jr., Alameda County Assessor; Charles W. Fisher, State Assemblyman, the daughter of the above mentioned and another daughter, Miss Nelda Fisher, of Oakland. Mr. Fisher was a native of Berlin but lived in California for many years. Before going West when he was a young man, he was principal of the Meyersdale schools, Mrs. Christie Graves and a few of the older elderly residents of Meyersdale having been pupils of his at that time. While in Oakland, Calif., on July 1st, last, the publisher of The Republican, who had known Prof. Fisher personally for many years, had a pleasant interview with him by telephone. At that time he was quite well and vigorous. Meyersdale Republican, August 18, 1932
