Elizabeth "Betty" Fleck, 89, of Allegheny Lutheran Home, Johnstown, formerly of Huntingdon, died Aug. 27, 2001 at the home. Born March 5, 1911 in Huntingdon. Daughter of I. Wallace and Edith Work (Isenberg) Fleck. Preceded in death by parents, and two sisters. Mrs. C.E. (Natalie) Maloy and Charlotte Willard Fleck. Survived by: nephew Dr. Charles F. Maloy III, Towson, Md.; two nieces, Kathryn G. Maloy, Miami, Fla., and Molly Maloy Sexton of Clearwater, Fla.; two great-nephews, Charles Maloy and Will Sexton, and a great-niece, Holly Maloy. Member of St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church, Somerset; Garden and Book Clubs of Johnstown; A.A.U.W., Johnstown Chapter; American Red Cross having served on the board of directors, Johnstown Chapter; Somerset Country Club, and Johnstown Art League. Educated in the public schools of Huntingdon, graduated Huntingdon High School, Class of 1928. Attended Juniata College for two years, transferring to the college of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., where she received a bachelor's degree. A member of Phi Mu Sorority at William and Mary. Received a master's degree in social work from Columbia University, New York City, N.Y. A faculty member in the physical education department of Juniata College. During World War II, worked for the American Red Cross, stationed in New Foundland, Canada. Returned to Huntingdon and directed the American Red Cross for five years. In the 1950s worked for the Veterans Administration in Johnstown. She served a [sic] psychiatric social worker until her retirement in 1972. Avid golfer and bridge player. In 1977 was the first woman to be inducted into the Juniata College Athletic Hall of Fame. Friends received from 1 to 2:30 p.m., the time of service at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon. Interment, Riverview Cemetery, 245 Standing Stone Ave., Huntingdon. The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions in memory of H. Elizabeth Fleck be given to the American Red Cross, Rt. 22, Huntingdon, Pa. 16652; Juniata College Alumni Scholarship Fund, 1700 Moore St., Huntingdon, Pa. 16652, or Hood College General Scholarship Fund, 401 Rosemont Ave., Frederick, Md. 21071.
