Born Jan. 14, 1918, in Somerset, she is the daughter of the late Obediah Presley and Erla Maude (Engleka) Flickinger. Also preceded in death by infant sister, Erma; brothers, Arthur Flickinger and Curtis Flickinger of Somerset and nephew, James Flickinger, Somerset. She is survived by a brother, Lester Flickinger and sister-in-law Mrs. Curtis (Thelma) Flickinger of Somerset; aunt, Faye E. Thompson of Hollsopple; nieces: Mrs. Dean (Sally) Walker, Friedens, Mrs. Clarence (Connie) Saylor, Rockwood and Mrs. Lois Custer, Somerset; stepniece, Mrs. Elmer (Shirley) Zimmerman of Wayne, Mich.; nephews: Edward Flickinger, Victoria, Texas, William Flickinger, East Berlin. Also survived by 38 great-and great-great-nieces and nephews and her true friends, retire Navy nurses, Dorothy "Red" Green and Terry Kelly of San Diego, Calif. Lifelong friends from Somerset, Louis Bowlby and Marty Coleman. she was an honor graduate of Somerset High School class of 1936. After graduation she completed nurses training at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital, Johnstown. She joined the Navy in May 1944, graduated from Dietic Instructions at George Washington University, Washington, D.C., serving throughout the world Agana, Guam, Naval Ship in the Bikini Atoll "Operations Crossroads," served with the First Marine Battalion, First Medical Division Hospital in Trentsin, China. Among the only Navy nurses to ever serve with the Marines in the field. She began her nursing career at the Somerset Hospital. Hospitals where she served as special diet instructor were: San Diego, Calif.; Camp Lejune, N.C.; Portsmouth, Va.; Chelsea, Mass.; Mare Island, Calif.; Philadelphia; Oakland, Calif., where she retired on 26 years of service in 1968. A veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Military Honors were held Dec. 17, 2003, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, Cabrillo National Monument, Point Loma, Calif. Rev.
