Floto died at his home in Connellsville, early Sunday morning, July 16, after a short illness. He would have been 80 years of age July 26, next. Mr. Floto was born in Berlin, Somerset County, July 26, 1864, the son of Augustus D. and Rose Zorn Floto. He attended the Berlin public school, the Jumonville Union Veterans' orphan school and Millersville State Normal. He taught school for two terms in Berlin and then entered the employ of the Philson private bank in Meyersdale in 1887, as bookkeeper, where he continued until 1906, after the Philson bank had been chartered as the Citizens National Bank, which he served as cashier. Sept. 15, 1893, he was united in marriage with Edith L. Shipley, daughter of the late Thomas J. and Leona Dudley Shipley of Meyersdale. In 1906 Mr. and Mrs. Floto moved to Connellsville where Mr. Floto accepted the position of cashier of the Yough National Bank which later was changed to the Yough Trust Company. He continued with this institution until 1927, when he retired. Mr. Floto served for a number of years as city treasurer of Connellsville, and secretary of the Connellsville Chamber of Commerce. He was a charter member of the Connellsville Rotary Club. He was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Connellsville, and served as Sunday School superintendent for more than 20 years and as treasurer of the church from 1911 until his death. He also served on various boards of the Pittsburgh Synod of the Lutheran Church. His wife passed away on February 27, 1942. He is survived by four sons and six daughters: Carl T. Floto, now in service with the Merchant Marine on active duty; Max C. Floto, Blairsville; Mrs. George Connor, Harrisburg; Norwood S. Floto, Bay City, Mich.; Mrs. Wayne K. Shontz, Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Ruth Hood, Philadelphia, wife of Commander Alex H. Hood of the U.S. Navy; Staff Sergeant Eugene R. Floto, Jr., of the U.S. Air Force, now on duty in the Italian sector, who was recently awarded the Distinguished Service Cross; Edith V. and Catherine R. Floto, at home, and Mrs. George Donehoo of Baltimore. One brother, Augustus D. Floto and one sister, Mrs. E. E. Schaible of Akron, O., also survive. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at his residence at 516 Race Street, at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon in charge of Rev. Dr. W. H. Hetrick, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, followed by interment in Hill Grove Cemetery. The funeral was attended by the following persons from Meyersdale: Miss Belle Shipley, Mrs. F. N. Shipley, D. Guy Floto and daughter, Betty, and R. H. Philson. The late William H. Floto and Daniel A. Floto, former prominent residents of Meyersdale, were brothers of Eugene E. Floto, who was an uncle of Squire D. Guy Floto of Meyersdale. Meyersdale Republican, July 20, 1944
