James C. Forney, killed in a plane crash in the Azores in World War II, were held in the Johnson and Son Funeral Home, Berlin, Sun., June 12 at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. Robert S. Nagle officiating. Military rites at the grave were in charge of Harry Fisher Post 7295, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Interment was made in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Eight of the ten crewmen including Lt. Forney were killed in the crash of a B- 24 bomber, which occurred August 9, 1944. The plane was enroute overseas. Lt. Forney entered the service in April, 1941, and was a first lieutenant in the dental corps. He was graduated from pursuit school at Victoria, Texas. He was born April 26, 1916, the son of Lt. Col. H. R. and the late Mrs. Myrtle Forney. His mother was killed in an auto accident in 1946. Surviving are his father, a dental surgeon in Kobe, Japan, his wife, Mrs. Anna A. Puda Forney and son Michael, aged five. The Forneys were formerly residents of Berlin. Meyersdale Republican, June 23, 1949
