Born November 21, 1921 in Somerset. A son of the late Owen M. and Cora A. (Henry) Forney. Also preceded in death by a brother Jay Robert Forney, and a sister Sarah Ann Forney. Survived by his wife the former Janice Ann Potter, and these children to a former marriage: Richard Dean Forney II, married to the former Janet Cox, Selma, CA; Miss Ellen Forney, Somerset; and Mark W. Forney, married to the former Berry Lou Custer, Surfside Beach, SC. Also two grandchildren: Joshua Forney, and Ashley Jolliff, both of Selma, CA. A member of the Summit Mills Grace Brethren Church, and a former member of the Somerset Church of the Brethren, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, youth advisor, and Sunday School teacher. A member of many musical organizations. A 50 year member of the Somerset Volunteer Fire Dept. A veteran of the U.S. Army WWII, where he served as an officer in Division Headquarters of the famed 66th Black Panther Division. Retired from the Pennsylvania Electric Co. with 41 years of service. Former president of the Somerset County Days at Sebring, FL. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of Meyersdale Lodge 554, Harrisburg Consistory, Jaffa Shrine Altoona, Legion of Honor Jaffa Temple Altoona, Somerset Co. Shrine Club, Somerset Co. Scottish Rite Club, and Hebron Royal Arch Chapter. He was an avid worker for the Shrine Hospital Crusade for the crippled and burned children, serving as chairman of the fund drive for four years. He served on the board of directors of the Somerset Co. Shrine Club. His hobbies include golf, gardening, and collecting antiques. He was 50 year member of American Legion Post 112. Friends were received Sunday at the Price Funeral Home Meyersdale, where service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, with the Rev. Roger L. Forry officiating. Interment Meyersdale Area Union Cemetery. Military honors accorded by the American Legion Post 112, and VFW Post 3504 Meyersdale.
