A daughter of Charles F. and the late Virta (Griffin) Harbert, she was born at Lumberport, W.Va., March 25, 1900, and had been a resident of Bittinger for eighteen years. Mrs. Fortney joined the Baptist Church at Lumberport at an early age and later moved her membership to the Bittinger Lutheran Church where she was also active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary Society. On Feb. 26, 1921, she was united in marriage with Lawrence Fortney of Lumberport, W.Va. To this union were born two children, Clark and Clara Lee. Mrs. Fortney is survived by her husband, Lawrence Fortney, and daughter, Clara Lee, at home. The daughter is a senior in high school; Pvt. Clark Fortney, Camp Wheeler, Ga., her father, Charles F. Harbert, one sister, Agnes Harbert and two brothers, Revis and Clyde, all of Lumberport, W.Va. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Bittinger Lutheran Church with Rev. A. C. Curran officiating. Interment was in the Bittinger Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, March 25, 1943
