FORTNEY Funeral services were held Apr. 12 at the Black Funeral Home, for W. B. Fortney, who was born in Independence, Preston County, W.Va., Jan. 29, 1857. He resided on a farm in Henry Clay Twp., Fayette County, near Confluence for 55 years. He was a life-long member of the Methodist Church, one of the oldest members of the Men's Bible Class and when he celebrated his 90th birthday last January the class sent him a card to which the name of each member was signed. His wife preceded him in death, May 28, 1939, a daughter, Mrs. A. C. Shipley, in 1935; Ruth Emma aged 5, in 1908 and Almond A. aged 4, on April 3, 1902. He is survived by these children: Ernest C., Chicago; Preston A., Oak Lawn, Ill.; William J., Los Angeles, Cal.; Clarence E., Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; Irvin, Confluence; Mrs. J. H. Ringer, East McKeesport; Mrs. S. J. Dunlap, Conneaut, Ohio; Mrs. Kenneth Mitchell, Takoma Park, Md.; Mrs. Nora Ogden, Confluence. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. W. E. Mobly aged 88, Los Angeles, Cal., and Mrs. Mary Pixler, 92, Huntington, W.Va., and one half-sister, Mrs. Florence Vance, Washington, Pa. Interment was made in the Frantz Cemetery with Rev. M. B. Clendenien officiating. Samuel Black, mortician, directed the funeral. Meyersdale Republican, May 1, 1947
