  MRS. JAMES W. FRIEND
  
    Mrs. Viola Gertrude Friend, 72, of Swanton, Md., died July 6, 1975, in
  Lions Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland.
    Born in Swanton, Md., she was a daughter of the late Joseph E. and Maggie
  (Fitzwater) Beckman.  Mrs. Friend was a member of Otterbein United Methodist
  Church; Camp 68, Woodmen of the World; and the AARP.
    Surviving are her husband, James W. Friend; three sons, James E., Wilmer
  E. and Ralph E. Friend, all of Swanton; two daughters, Mrs. Mary E.
  Rodeheaver, Deer Park, Md.; and Mrs. Marlene V. Cornwell, Woodbridge, Va.;
  also 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two brothers, John T. and
  Joseph E. Friend, both of Swanton; and four sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Woullard,
  Meyersdale; Mrs. Freda Sears, Swanton; Mrs. Helen Sebold, Deer Park; and
  Mrs. Marguerite Wotring, Mt. Lake Park, Md.
    Funeral service was conducted Tuesday afternoon in Otterbein United
  Methodist Church by Rev. Frank J. Johnson.  Burial in the George Cemetery.
