Born May 15, 1910, in Brothersvalley Township, the son of Robert L. and Emma (Cober) Fritz. He was a graduate of Berlin High School, class of 1925, and Penn State University, class of 1929. He did graduate work at the University of New Hampshire and the University of Maryland. He received his degree in biochemistry, specializing in vitamin research, poultry nutrition and human nutrition. He married Jeanette Moore Blair of Peterborough, N.H., on July 30, 1933. He worked for the Agriculture Experiment Farm at Beltsville, Md., until moving to Elgin, Ill., in 1937, where he accepted directorship of the Borden Experimental Laboratory. In 1965 he accepted a position with the Food and Drug Administration at Washington, D.C., and since that time had lived at Bowie, Md. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Elgin, Ill. Preceded in death by his wife in 1979, he is survived by a daughter, Margaret Fritz Baker, of Lawrence, Kan.; a son, Richard Blair Fritz of Boulder, Colo.; and four grandchildren: Peter Fritz Baker, Elizabeth Blair Baker, Amy Kathryn Fritz and James Robert Fritz. Also surviving is one brother, H. Henry Fritz of Berlin. A memorial service will be held in the Berlin Brethren Church on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ralph Mills and the Rev. William Hay officiating. A scholarship award fund will be established at the Berlin High School. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to this fund in his memory.
