William Dale Fritz Sr., 73, U.S. Army (Retired), of Gettysburg, died June 11, 1976, at the Hershey Medical Center. He was born Feb. 15, 1903, near Pine Hill, the son of the late Herman Peter and Elmira (Smith) Fritz Walker. Preceded in death by his step-father, Robert Walker, Sr., as well as a half-brother, Robert Walker Jr., who was killed in World War II. His mother was the manager of the Hollywood Inn near Berlin for many years. He was a grandson of the late William H. and Minerva (Hay) Fritz and the late G. Washington and Mary (Hauger) Smith, all residents of Brothersvalley Township. Surviving are his wife, the former Helen Heath; two sons: Major William D. Fritz Jr. of Omaha, Neb.; and Capt. Paul H. Fritz of Arlington, Va., and one granddaughter. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Gettysburg; and had resided in Gettysburg for the past eight years. He was also a member of the Adams County Torch Club; American Chemical Society; American Security Council; National Defense Association; Continental Congress Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, and of the Highland Park American Legion. He served for 34 years as a director of the South Middlesex Teachers' Credit Association, and had been employed as a consultant for the Gettysburg Engineering Co. A graduate of Gettysburg College in 1925, he received his masters degree in chemistry from the same college in 1932. He also received a master's degree in teaching from Columbia University in 1937. He taught at Confluence, Pa.; Roxburg, N.J. High School. At the latter school he served as head of the science department. He was on active duty with the Army from March 2, 1941 to April 22, 1948, serving with the Air Force. Funeral services were held at the Christ Lutheran Church in Gettysburg.
