Born and educated in Somerset, he is the son of the late Samuel H. and Mary Elaine Maust Gardiner. He is survived by his loving children, Scott (Sheila) Gardiner of Latham, and Mary Katie (David) Gardiner of Latham, his best friend and former wife Peggy Ann Gardiner of Latham, his cherished grandchildren, Nicholas A. Gardiner, Madison Elaine Gardiner, Benjamin G. Anastasio and Elizabeth Bell Anastasio; brother Samuel H. Gardiner of Delmar and sister Cheryl A. Gardiner of Delmar; former wife Karen Gardiner, sister-in-law, Pam Gardiner. He is the uncle of Jeff, Michelle and Matt Gardiner of Delmar and best friend of Alan and Karen Klepper of Saratoga Lake. He received his masters degree in business administration from Frostburg State University in Maryland. He was a former partner of Roto-Matic Industrial Technologies in Albany. Al was previously employed as a special projects engineer for Dowty Aerospace Aviation Services in Virginia and in the same capacity at Martin Marietta Naval Systems in Maryland. He was currently employed by the Long Island Pipe and Supply Company in Green Island. He was a social member of the Latham-Colonie Knights of Columbus and a member of the Shriners and Masonic Temple. He had a special love for his four cherished grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham. The Rev. David Bissett officiating. Relatives and friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory's Garden in Colonie, N.Y.
