Born Jan. 29, 1924, in Jefferson Township, a daughter of Roy Ward and Carrie Mae (Pyle) Baker. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Earl E. Gardner who died Sept. 9, 1983; brothers, Earl, Wade, Harry and Henry Baker; and great-grandson Brandon Rager. Survived by children: Mrs. Donald E. (Virginia D. Holladay) Showalter of Greenville, S.C., Mrs. Fred J. (Carol Ann Holladay) Walker of Somerset, Larry A. Holladay of Warren, Ohio, and Ronald E. Gardner, married to the former Connie Penrose of Blairsville; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Also survived by sisters Mrs. Mary Gardner of Somerset, and Mrs. Sarah Brant of Newton Falls, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Ruth Baker of Somerset, Mrs. Nevin (Nancy) Barkley of Somerset, Mrs. Frank (Ethel) Stern of Hollsopple, Mrs. Pauline Gardner of Somerset, and Mrs. Janie Gardner of Boswell. Lifetime member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church where she was treasurer of the Willing Workers class and an active member of WELCA. She was a retired clerk for Somerset Chamber of Commerce; also a member of Bakersville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary where she served as vice president. She was an Ombudsman with Area Agency on Aging and was active in its PAL program and participated in Somerset Hospital's Better Breathing and Cardiac Club. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset. Service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Bakersville. The Rev. Elisa A. Osman officiating. Interment, Bakersville Cemetery. Contributions may be sent to Mt. Zion Lutheran Church 3093 Glades Pike, Somerset, Pa. 15501.
