Gardner, 85, of Somerset died July 20, 2000 at Somerset Hospital. Born May 29, 1915 in Gray, he is the son of the late Jacob Austin and Mary (Kimmel) Gardner. Also preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Leaphart, brothers, Homer, James, Harry, Richard and Thomas Gardner, sisters, Naomi Gardner Wertz and Ruth Gardner Simon. Survived by: wife, the former Ethel Mae (Barron) Peters; step children, Earl Peters of Delaware, Barry Peters of Bakersville, William Peters II of Sipesville and Mrs. Hubert (Cathy) Queer of Somerset. Six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Sister Anna Gardner of Johnstown. Member of First Methodist Church of Somerset where he was a Sunday School Teacher, Choir member and served on various committees. Also a member of NARFE, CBI Verteran of WW II and a retired postal worker. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home, Somerset. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church, Somerset, with Rev. Patricia Nelson officiating. Interment in Somerset County Memorial Park will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Methodist Church, 149 W. Patriot St., Somerset, Pa. 15501. There will be no viewing at the church. Daily American, July 21, 2000 [G0052]
