Born Dec. 28, 1934 in Jefferson Township, a son of Dwight Webster and Jennie Edna (Barndt) Gardner. Preceded in death by parents, two brothers, Guy Gardner and an infant brother, Wayne. Survived by wife, the former Mary Emma Stiffler to whom he was married 48 years; children, Mrs. Paul R. (Jean Ann) Wicks of Boswell, Mrs. Douglas J. (Kay Lynn) Kimmel of Meyersdale, Luther G. Gardner Jr., married to the former Vanessa Lambert of Friedens, and Kevin A. Gardner of Loveland, Colo.; four grandsons, Douglas Kimmel Jr., Christopher Wicks, Benjamin Gardner and Nathan Gardner. Brother of William W. Gardner of Manchester, Tenn., Paul M. Gardner of Berlin, Mrs. Harold (Betty) Fraker of Three Springs, and Charles B. Gardner of Mechanicsville, Md. Member of Somerset Grace Brethren Church and Laurel Ridge Sportsmans Association. A 1952 graduate of Somerset High School. He was an avid collector of classic model cars. Employed by the former Beacon Truck Stop from 1958 to 1974, Wheeler Electric Supply from 1974 to 1989 and Laurel Highlands Foundation for six years retiring in 1999. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, where service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Brian E. Rager officiating.
