Gardner, 72, of Rockwood passed on May 23, 1997, at Somerset Hospital. Born Feb. 1, 1925, in Rockwood. Son of the late William C. and Florence (Joder) Gardner Sr. Preceeded in death by son Mark in 1984 and brothers William Jr. and Dean Gardner. Survived by wife of 44 years, the former Dorothy Allen; son Paul married to Erin (Mossburg) of Middletown and grandchildren: Daniel, Andrew and Bethany. Brother of Jack Gardner of Savannah, Ga. Veteran of the U.S. Army, World War II. Member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Rockwood, where he was a longtime council member, Sunday School teacher and choir member. Member of the Rockwood Rotary Club where he was past secretary. Past commander of American Legion Post 279, treasure of the Rockwood Historical Society, Republicn Party committe member. Member of the advisory board of the Somerset County Area Agency on Aging. Retired postmaster of Rockwood with 27 years service. Avid fisherman and vacationer in Florida. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Wilber D. Miller Funeral Home, Rockwood. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Pastors Ardella Mason and James Ling and Rev. Jay Christner officiating. Interment, Rockwood IOOF Cemetery.
