Mr. Christopher C. Garlits died Saturday January 7th, 1914, after an illness of several months of stomach trouble, at his home on Broadway Street. Mr. Garlits was born June 3rd, 1840 in Garrett County, Md., and spent his boyhood days in that county. He was married to Miss Alida Skiff, of near New Germany, Md. September 9th, 1861, where they resided on a farm for a number of years. They then removed to Elk Lick Township where they resided on a farm for many years. Later the family removed to Brothersvalley Township and resided there until coming to Meyersdale about ten years ago, when he served for several years on the police force. He was a man of a quiet disposition and won the esteem and respect of all with whom he came in contact. He was a good, conscientious Christian man. The funeral took place on Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock in the Catholic Church where requiem high Mass was celebrated by his pastor, Rev. Father J. J. Brady, interment in Catholic Cemetery. He is survived by his widow and the following children: Mrs. Boaz Trent, of Boynton; Mrs. Charles T. Baker, and Mrs. William Sarver, Berlin; Mrs. Eli Folk, Coal Run; Mrs. George McDonald, Eckard Mines, Md.; Mrs. A. A. Felix, Conemaugh; Mrs. F. B. Livengood, Baltimore, Md.; Mrs. John Darrah and Mrs. Charles Ringler, of this place and Miss Edith at home. Meyersdale Commercial, Feb. 12, 1914
