He was born at Avilton, Md., and was a son of the late Orville Garlitz and Molla (Bardon) Garlitz and was a retired electrician from the Celanese Corporation. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church of Avilton, and was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Grantsville American Legion Post 214. He is survived by his widow, Pearl (McKenzie) Garlitz; five sons, Miles Garlitz, Arnold Garlitz, Clay Garlitz, all of Avilton; Cecil Garlitz of Pocahontas; and Allen Garlitz of Cresaptown, Maryland; one daughter, Mrs. Helen Gilpin of Girard, Ohio; two brothers, Ellis Garlitz of Avilton and Leonard Garlitz of Salisbury; two sisters, Mrs. Inez Michaels of Amherst, Ohio, and Mrs. Lillian Kemp of Sheffield Lake, Ohio; and 12 grandchildren. Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home in Grantsville. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Frostburg with the Rev. John Reinsfelder officiating. Interment was in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery. The family suggests that memorials take the form of contributions to the Northern Garrett County Rescue Squad. The Republic, December 30, 1982 [G0111]
