(Bert) Garlitz was born on the Peter Maust place, now known as the Plitt Poultry Farm, May 29, 1881, the son of Wells and Mahala (Weimer) Garlitz, and died March 19, 1932, in a hospital at Puyallup, Wash., of a pulmonary infection. He grew to manhood in Elk Lick Township, Somerset County, Pa., where he followed lumbering and mining for a living. In the winter of 1907 he went to Colorado where he engaged in farming near Fruita, which work he followed until ill health forced him to quit work. Shortly after locating in Colorado he married Miss Emily Gaines, to whom were born the following children: Edith, a teacher in the Colorado public schools; Walter and Herbert, all living. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: A. F. Garlitz, Salisbury, Pa.; Mrs. Cecelia Bowman and Mrs. Julia Heniker, Boynton, Pa.; Mrs. Lucy Siehl, Puyallup, Wash.; George H. and Joseph L., of Fruita, Colorado. He was laid to rest in the Catholic Cemetery at Fruita, Colo., at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 22. His death came as a great shock to his Eastern relatives as they did not know of his illness until a few days before his death. Meyersdale Republican, March 31, 1932
