Mrs. Garman, one of the best loved and best known citizens of the community, was the widow of the late Dr. John S. Garman, who died in 1912. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hargnett of Ligonier and was born in Ligonier, February 17, 1857. Her father was a merchant, justice of the peace and at one time, postmaster at Ligonier. In 1880, she came to Berlin as the bride of Dr. John S. Garman. In all of her 68 years of residence in Berlin, she was a faithful member of the Methodist Church in which she served as communion steward, member of the official board and a teacher in the Sunday school. She kept abreast of the times by reading and the radio, and was a familiar figure on the streets as she went about doing her shopping, up until the last days of her life. She was a devoted wife and mother, having had ten children including three sets of twins. She is survived by J. Hargnett Garman and Mrs. William O'Dwyer of Berlin, Dr. Ralph A. Garman, Tomah, Wis., and Miss Lorene Garman, a teacher in the West View schools of Pittsburgh; a sister, Mrs. John Boucher of Greensburg, and three grandsons, John Garman of Pottstown, William Garman of Berlin and John S. Garman of Tomah, Wis. Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at two o'clock in the Johnson & Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Trimpey and the Rev. D. S. Stephan, D.D., officiating. Interment was made in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Berlin. Meyersdale Republican, December 9, 1948
