Gashaw, 63, of Somerset RD 7, died Jan. 24, 1983, at the Somerset Community Hospital. Born March 3, 1919, in Somerset Township, a son of the late Cyrus Lincoln and Hattie (Stutzman) Gashaw. Preceded in death by one sister, Pearl, and one brother, Lester J. Survived by his wife, the former Uleta Dell Pyle; one daughter, Linda (Gashaw) Brougher of Pittsburgh; four sisters; Mrs. Nellie Egolf, Mrs. Mary Albright, Mrs. Walter (Ruth) Miller, all of Somerset; and Mrs. Ted (Miriam) McClemmens, Youngstown, Ohio. Member of Geiger Church of the Brethren. Retired Menzie Dairy route salesman. Veteran of U.S. Air Force World War II, where he served as a staff sergeant and an airplane armorer/gunner in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters, where he received the Distinguished Flying Cross. He served in the Normandy and Air Offensive European Campaign, where he received numerous Bronze Stars. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Wilbur D. Miller Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Geiger Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Gerald Deffenbaugh officiating. Interment, St. John's Cemetery.
