(McKenzie) Gates died in New Orleans, La., where she had resided for the past 24 years with her late son and his family. She died at home on September 26, 1985. She was born July 9, 1894 in Meyersdale, the daughter of Sampson G. McKenzie and Barbara Ebaugh McKenzie. She was preceded in death by her husband A. Lisle Gates and her son Andrew L. Gates, Jr. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Lousie Gates and 5 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers, Leo G. McKenzie, Meadville; Robert J. McKenzie, Cadiz, Kentucky; and Edward J. McKenzie, St. Petersburg, Fla. She was the sister of Molly Shaffer, Simon McKenzie, John McKenzie, Thomas McKenzie, all of Meyersdale, and Katherine McKenzie, St. Petersburg, Fla., all deceased. She was a former member of S.S. Phillip and James Church and was employed until her retirement by the Meyersdale Manufacturing Co. She was also active in many local organizations until her move to New Orleans. Services were held Sat., Sept. 28, at 10:30 a.m. when Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in the Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home Chapel. Interment Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
