Born in Mount Savage, Md., July 9, 1957, he was a son of Mrs. Betty Jane (Brown) Gaughan, Mount Savage, Md., and the late James Patrick Gaughan. He was employed by the James River Construction Company at Richmond. Surviving are 11 brothers: Sgt. Major William L. Gaughan, Alexandria, Va.; Petty Officer 2nd Henry Gaughan, Alameda, Ca.; Anthony Gaughan, Falls Church, Va.; John Gaughan, Mount Peliar, Vt.; Stephen Gaughan, Cumberland, Md.; Christopher Gaughan, Lonaconing, Md.; Richard Gaughan, Frank Gaughan, George Gaughan, Michael Gaughan and Peter Gaughan, all of Mount Savage, Md.; six sisters: Catheria Pinkston, Salisbury, N.C.; Barbara DeMoss, Cumberland, Md.; Mary Jane Werner, Finzel, Md.; Mrs. Rose Marie O'Brian, Wiley Ford, W.Va.; and Teresa Bishop and Anna Gaughan, both of Mount Savage, Md.; and maternal grandmother, Mrs. Edna Brown, Meyersdale RD 4. Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated July 15 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church by the Rev. John J. Mackey. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
