All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ CHARLES GAUMER Charles Gaumer, a resident of Southampton Township, died at his home Sunday evening, May 11, from leakage of the heart and asthma, with which he had been afflicted for many years. He was aged 70 years, 11 months and 24 days. Mr. Gaumer spent most of his life in the community where he passed away. He was a resident of Meyersdale from 1908 to 1912, part of which time he was working in the mines, and part of the time on street repairs, under Commissioner J. O. Weller. He moved to his late home in the fall of 1912 and took up farming at which he continued as long as he was able to work. He was in failing health all winter, but was not bedfast at any time. He was up and around all day on Sunday, May 11, and did not complain any until about 7 o'clock in the evening, when his asthmatic trouble got worse and he passed away at 9:30 o'clock. He is survived by his wife, Rosanna (Fossler) Gaumer and six children: Harvey E., of Ellerslie, Md.; Samuel E., at home; Nettie P. Lowery, Bedford, Pa.; Mamie E. Sturtz, Wellersburg; Ruth M., Cresaptown, Md.; Beatrice T., at home. Twelve grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Hannah Kennel, of Bloomington, Md., also survive. Mr. Gaumer was married twice, first, on Sept. 2, 1886, to Martha A. Shumaker, to which union were born three sons, Harvey E., Samuel E. and Arty T., who died in infancy. His first wife died March 12, 1892. He was married the second time to Rosanna Fossler of Meyersdale, May 4, 1893, to which union were born four daughters who survive. Funeral services were conducted at the house by Rev. Von Kaske, a former pastor of the Wellersburg Reformed Church, of which Mr. Gaumer was a member for a number of years. His body was buried in the Getz cemetery near his late home, at 2:30 o'clock. A large number of relatives and friends attended the obsequies. The pall-bearers were Albert Baker, Clarence Kennell, Anthony Witt, Irvin Troutman, William Emerick, John Witt. The flower bearers were Peter P. Michaels, Henry Everline and Raymond H. Emerick.
