Born in Meyersdale, he was the son of Grace and the late Walter Gauntz. He is preceded in death by his father and wife, the former Mary Jane Shaffer, of Listie. He is survived by two daughters: Barbara and Gretchen Gauntz, and one son, Alfred, all of York; one sister, Mrs. Blanche Riehl, of Berlin; and four brothers: Ellsworth, of Pleasant Hills; Harold, of High Point, N.C.; Jack and Larry, of Meyersdale. He was a member of the Second Church of the Brethren; an army veteran of WWII, a sergeant. He was a self employed accountant in York for 14 years. Friends were received at the Leroy R. Leber Funeral Home, 2290 School St., York, Wednesday 7-9 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. at the Second Church of the Brethren, York. Rev. Robert Spencer and Pastor Roy Merrs will officiate. Interment, Prospect Hill Cemetery, York. The Republic, August 5, 1982 [G0212]
