Gauntz, 70, of High Point, North Carolina, died March 30, 1994 at High Point Regional Hospital. Born Dec. 21, 1923 in Meyersdale, he was a son of Walter G. and Grace V. Albright Gauntz. He had been a resident of High Point for 17 1/2 years, coming from Newport News, Va. He was a retired US Army Command Sgt. Major, where he was one of the first 10 men chosen for this position. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the High Point Moose Lodge No. 693 and the Disabled American Veterans Association. He was also a member of the Covenant United Methodist Church. He married Eleanor Mae Bodes, who died in December 1993. He is survived by one daughter, Deborah Sue Gauntz; one son, Gregory Harold Gauntz of Raleigh; one sister, Blanche Reihl, Berlin; three brothers: Jack Gauntz and Larry Gauntz, both of Meyersdale; and Ellsworth Gauntz of Alexandria, Va.; and two grandchildren.
