He was born June 4, 1922, in Acme, son of the late Otto and Mary E. Hoover Gearhart. He was a life-long resident of Acme and was a retired milk hauler. Veteran of WWII in the U.S. Army. Member of Donegal American Legion, Mount Pleasant VFW Post 3368; Marion Lodge 562, F&AM, Scottdale; Uniontown Lodge of Perfection, and Tall Cedars of Lebanon. Charter member of the Saltlick Twp. Vol. Fire Dept., the Chestnut Ridge Lions Club. Social member of the Kecksburg Vol. Fire Dept. Member of Bridgeport Sportsmen Club and Donegal Senior Citizens Center. Member of Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Donegal. In addition to his parents, predeceased by a brother, Bryce Gearhart, and 4 sisters - Daisy and Hazel Gearhart, Jean Lint, Nettie Clark. Survived by wife, with whom he celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on June 21, 1992; daughter, Mrs. Charles (Shelva J.) Hauer of Salisbury; 2 sons, Harold L. Gearhart of Acme RD 1 and Jerry D. Gearhart of Acme RD 2; 6 grandchildren; 3 brothers: Hayes Gearhart of Connellsville, George Gearhart of Champion and Leroy Gearhart of Mount Pleasant; a sister, Mildred Mowery of Greensburg. Friends will be received at the Clyde Brooks Funeral Home Inc., Route 711, Melcroft, from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, followed by funeral service at 10:30 a.m. in Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Donegal, with the Rev. Robert Anschuetz officiating. Interment in Brown Cemetery, Saltlick Twp. Family requests that donations be made in his name to the Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Donegal. Marion Lodge 562, F&AM, will conduct a service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in funeral home. Chestnut Ridge Lions Club will conduct a service at 7 p.m. Wednesday in funeral home.
