Gerhard, 82, of Mud Pike, Rockwood, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, passed away on Jan. 18, 2003 in Meyersdale. Born Aug. 22, 1920 in Milford Twp., the daughter of Charles and Nellie (Thomas) Cook. Preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband Harold, who passed away on Dec. 23, 1987. Survived by son, Harold Jr. and wife Linda of Meyersdale; daughter Heather and husband Charles Harah of Latrobe; daughter Karen and husband Robert Morgan Jr. of Rockwood; and son Gregory and wife Gloria of Rockwood. She also leaves 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was a lifelong member of Messiah Lutheran Church in New Centerville where she taught Bible school, was an assistant teacher of the Willing Workers Sunday School class, a member of the Altar Guild, choir and Lutheran Christian Woman and served on the church council for many years. She was a long-time member of the New Centerville and Rural Fire Dept. Auxiliary and the Somerset County Fire Association Ladies' Auxiliary. She was a past president of both organizations. She was a past Judge of Elections in Milford Township and was involved in the Kingwood Picnic and the New Centerville Farmers' and Threshermen's Jubilee. She enjoyed quilting and helped at both the church and firemen's auxiliary quiltings. She was retired from the Sears and Roebuck Co. after 28 years of service. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, Somerset. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Messiah Lutheran Church, Rev. William Osman officiating. No viewing at the church prior to the service. Interment, Union Cemetery, New Centerville.
