  George E. "Barney" Gerhardt, 83, Somerset RD 3, died May 29, 1988 at Maple
  Mountain Manor.  Born Jan. 18, 1905 in Somerset Township, son of the late
  Freeman Ross and Clara S. (Shaffer) Gerhardt.  Preceded by son, Douglas,
  brother, Ross, and two sisters, Ruth Madden and Rose Secrist.  Survived by
  wife, the former Helen M. Faidley and these children: Mrs. James (Janet)
  Gnagey, Somerset RD 6, Roger W., Cleveland, Ohio, and George E. Jr.,
  Friedens RD 1, eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.  Brother of
  Philip, Goodlettsville, Tenn.; Clark, San Diego, Calif.; Eugene, Mesa,
  Ariz.; Scott, Tampa, Fla.; and James, Grove City, Ohio.  Retired mechanic
  for Herring Motor Company.  Member of Somerset Church of the Brethren. 
  Private services and interment in Somerset County Memorial Park will be
  held at the convenience of the family.  Family suggests memorial
  contributions to the Somerset Church of the Brethren building fund.
