"Whitey" Gerhart, 83, Meyersdale, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died Nov. 30, 2004, at Meyersdale Medical Center. Born Feb. 17, 1921, in Meyersdale. A son of the late Paul and Grace (Beal) Gerhart. Survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Viola Emerick and four daughters: Judy, wife of David VanMeter, Cumberland, Md.; Linda VanMeter, Wellersburg; Bonnie, wife of Ralph Tressler; and Patty, wife of Tim Amann, Meyersdale. Also survived by four grandchildren: David VanMeter Jr., Ralph Tressler Jr., Amy Long, and James VanMeter Jr. and seven great-grandchildren who were the joy of his life. He is survived by numerous brothers and sisters. Whitey loved hunting, gardening and was an avid sports fan. A veteran U.S. Army World War II. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, where a service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Joe Onder officiating.
