Sr. 'Bob' 11/03/07 Daily American Robert J. "Bob" Gibson Sr., 79, Lake Shore Drive, Stoughton Lake, Jennerstown, died Nov. 1, 2007, at Somerset Hospital. Born Feb. 15, 1928, in Homer City, son of Paul and Grace (Beahr) Gibson. Preceded in death by parents; wife of 52 years, the former Margaret Ann "Peg" Silvis, on Oct. 19, 2005; and daughter-in-law, Holly L. Gibson. Survived by son, James, married to Linda Mehall, Norristown; daughter, Linda Gibson and Walter Stoppe, both of Boswell; son, Robert J. Jr., Pittsburgh; and grandchildren, James and Kristen Gibson, Sean Gibson, Keri and Matthew Stoppe, Adam and Sarah Stoelker and Zachary Gibson. Also survived by sister, Clara Louise Hall, Florida; brother, Richard P. Gibson, Ligonier; sister-in-law, Evelyn Fink, Jeannette; and brothers-in-law, James Silvis, Texas; and David Silvis, Greensburg; also numerous nieces and nephews. A 1946 graduate of Blairsville High School. A World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy Air- Sea Rescue Unit, Jacksonville, Fla., Naval Air Station. Attended Tri-State College, Angola, Ind., and graduated from Bliss Electrical School, Washington, D.C. Employed by Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania/AT&T, having retired after 36 years of service in 1986. Also employed by the U.S. Postal Service for several years after his retirement. Member of St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church, Boswell. Life member of AT&T Pioneers, Jerome Post 802 American Legion, Jenner Rod & Gun Club and the Greater Ferndale Sportsmen Club. Also a member of Jerome Nest 556 Polish Falcons of America, Jerome Sportsmen Association, New Baltimore Sportsmen Association, Somerset Aerie 1801 Fraternal Order of Eagles and Somerset County Old-timers Baseball Association. Viewing will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Allegheny Street, Boswell, where a service will be held 11 a.m. Monday. The Rev. David Saylor, family friend and pastor of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Evan City. Interment Beam Cemetery, near Gray. Graveside military rites in charge of Somerset County Honor Guard.
