Gilbert, 64, Girard, Ohio, formerly of Somerset, passed away of congestive heart failure, March 8, 2008, at North Side Hospital . Born Oct. 12, 1943, in Somerset, the son of James F. and Mary Catherine (Baker) Gilbert. Besides his parents, he is also preceded in death by a brother, Paul Gilbert, who was killed in the Vietnam War in 1966. Survived by his previous wife, Diane Gold; daughters, Lisa Conklin and husband, Rich, Howland, Ohio; and Jackie Cowles and husband, Jeff, Weathersfield Township, Ohio; three brothers, Elwood Gilbert, Liberty, Ohio; Roger Gilbert, Gray; and Ralph Gilbert, Boswell; one sister, Denise Price, West Virginia; seven grandchildren, Jonathan, Tyler, Zackery, Nicholas, Brook, Riley and Delaney; and one great-granddaughter, Kiley. He also leaves several nieces and nephews and a nephew, Scott O'Brien with whom he made his home. Jay was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Niles, Ohio. He worked at Cole Valley (formerly Valley Pontiac) for 42 years, retiring in March 2007 as the assistant body shop manager. He enjoyed his grandchildren and spending time with them. Jay also enjoyed westerns, country music and writing poetry. Friends received from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home, Somerset, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Interment, Beams Cemetery.
