GINDLESPERGER Slater "Carl" Gindlesperger, 84, of Hollsopple went home to be with his Lord Aug. 14, 2003, at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital. Born June 17, 1919 in Conemaugh Township, son of Cloyd C. and Dora (Kaufman) Gindlesperger. Preceded in death by parents, brothers Charles, and Paul and sisters Beatrice, and Elnora Shetler. Also preceded in death by only son Richard Carl Gindlesperger, July 7, 1963. Survived by wife Velma S.E. Kaltenbaugh to whom he was married for 62 years on June 21, 2003. Also survived by daughters, Norma, Davidsville; Jo Ann wife of Richard Owens, Virginia; and Gloria wife of Allen Kaufman, Friedens. Daughter-in-law Joyce and her husband David Fannin, Kentucky. Grandchildren Richard Gindlesperger and wife Jill, Jeffrey Kaufman and fiancee Amanda Kristoff, and Justin Carl and Janna Kaufman. Great-grandchildren Eric Slater and Emily Gindlesperger. Step grandchildren Donna Kay and husband Vic Adams, Jamie Owen and his wife Ronnie, and Casey Owen, Step great-grandchildren Caleb and Bret Adams. Also survived by brother Wilmer, Davidsville, and sister Wilmetta Steele, Georgia. Carl was employed by Conemaugh Township Supervisors as an equipment operator and Quaker Sales Corporations as an operating engineer. He was a member of Local 66 of the Operators Union of Engineers. He gave countless hours of volunteer time traveling to many states with Mennonite Disaster Service. He also gave countless hours of his time and love to help his son-in-law Allen on the farm. He was a donor of gallons of blood and platelets to the American Red Cross. Carl was a member of Kaufman Mennonite Church and an active volunteer at Worlds Attic and was a coordinator for MDS for many years. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend to many. He will be greatly missed. Family received friends Friday and will be receiving friends from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the George E. Mason Funeral Home Inc., Davidsville. Remains will live in state from 1 p.m. until time of funeral service at 2 p.m. Sunday at Kaufman Mennonite Church. Rev. Don Hamsher and Rev. Wes Yoder officiating. Interment Blough Mennonite Cemetery.
