Born Jan. 22, 1916, in Macdonaldton. Son of Vito and Maria (Surano) Gironda. Preceded in death by parents; special niece, Cynthia Downie, Oct. 15, 1980; infant sister, Theresa; sister, Vitina; and brothers, Joseph and Frank. Survived by wife of 60 years, the former Beatrice Downie; and children, Charles Raymond Gironda, married to Kathleen Agnello, Ebensburg; Mary Catherine "Sis" married to David Barabas, Jerome; Michael J. Gironda, married to Patricia Uschak, Jeannette; and Robert E., Westmont; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren (soon to be 12); and sisters, Rose Vizzini, Laurel View Village, Davidsville; Lucy, wife of Louis Mastrocola, Syracuse, N.Y.; and Pauline, wife of Samuel J. Stumpo, Johnstown. A graduate of Johnstown High School. Member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, Davidsville; St. Anne's Council, 8979, K. of C.; Conemaugh Township and Boswell Area Historical Societies; and the Board of Directors of People's Bank and Trust Company, Jennerstown, for 20 years. 16-year member of the Connumach Lions Club, having served as secretary/treasurer from 1989 to 1993. Charter member of the Conemaugh Township Rotary Club (1973, 1983) and the Somerset County Economic Development Council (formerly Development Authority) for 40 years, where he was a past president. Past member for 12 years of the Somerset County Tax Appeal Board. Charter member and served as president for 24 years of the Jerome Volunteer Fire Company. Former owner/operator of the Jerome Theater and Recreation Center for 25 years. Conemaugh Township supervisor from 1945 to 1981 having served as secretary/treasurer for 30 years. Instrumental in providing community/fire/police protection and in the formation of the township's water authority. Recipient of the Conemaugh Township Rotary Community Citizen's Award (1975). Inducted into the Pennsylvania Voter's Hall of Fame in 1986 for 50 consecutive years of voting, now 64 consecutive years. Friends received from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hoffman Funeral Home, Route 403 and Church Road, Davidsville, where Lions memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday and vigil for the deceased will be held Wednesday afternoon. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anne's Church. Rev. Father Michael Lewandowski, OFM Conv., Celebrant. Entombment All Faith Mausoleum, Windber.
