Mr. Glessner was born in Meyersdale. Following high school graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1950. He was employed as district scout executive by the Boy Scouts of America, and moved to the Northern Neck in 1954. He subsequently worked as a building contractor, then time-share realtor. In later years, he moved to Kilmarnock. Mr. Glessner was a member of the Warsaw United Methodist Church. He remained active in Warsaw VFW Post 7167, continued membership in the Warsaw Masonic Lodge No. 332, and served as a Boy Scout volunteer. He also attended Kilmarnock United Methodist Church, the American Legion, and served as a Rappahannock General Hospital Volunteer. Mr. Glessner is survived by a son, Steven F. Glessner, M.D.; an older brother, Charles H. Glessner of Malvern, Pa.; a younger brother, Frederick S. Glessner of Pittsburgh; four nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Griffith Glessner, in May 1989, and by a daughter, Rebecca Ann, who died in October 1978. Funeral services were held at Warsaw United Methodist Church May 22, with Rev. Howard M. Gosnell officiating. He was interred in the church cemetery. Pallbearers included Charles D. Price, M.D.; John Deschamps, M.D.; Joseph C. Bessler, M.D.; Kevin J. McGrath, M.D.; Stuart D. Martin, D.D.S.; and William S. Clements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Warsaw United Methodist Church Music Fund or the Warsaw VFW Post 7167, both in Warsaw, VA 22572. The New Republic, June 4, 1998 [G0510 and G0511]
