Glessner, one of the oldest citizens of Berlin, passed away Sunday evening, Sept. 13, at 10:15 after an illness of about six months from cancer of the mouth. He was born in Stonycreek Township, Aug. 19, 1853, and at death was aged 89 years, 24 days. He was the eldest son of Jacob J. and Dinah Walker Glessner. He is survived by his wife, Anne Schrock, the daughter of John M. and Elizabeth Weigle Schrock, whom he married 62 years ago. For many years they occupied a farm about two miles north-east of Berlin, along the Berlin-Roxbury road, from which they retired about 30 years ago, and bought a comfortable home on Main Street, Berlin, where he passed away. Not having any children of their own this couple reared several children, among them, Nevin Croner, a nephew, whose mother was a sister of Mrs. Glessner, who died leaving an only child. He now occupies the Glessner farm home. He is also survived by an older sister, Sarah, widow of Samuel Miller, now living in Carleton, Nebr.; and one brother, Jefferson, residing in Stonycreek Township. The following brothers and sisters preceded him in death: Emma, wife of Edward K. Suder; Frank P.; Urias; Ellen, wife of Irwin Miller and Jacob J. Henry Glessner was a life-long member of the Reformed Church. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 in the home, by Rev. John N. Bethune, pastor of Trinity Reformed Church, with burial in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, September 17, 1942
