All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ WILLIAM GLOTFELTY William Glotfelty, well known Garrett County, Md. farmer, died at his home near Bittinger at 4:30 o'clock Thursday morning, Jan. 29. He had been in ill health for about a year. Recently his condition had been rapidly growing worse and hope for his recovery was abandoned. A son of the late Nimrod and Mary Broadwater Glotfelty, he was born at the homestead where he spent his entire life, April 28, 1865, and at the time of his death was aged 76 years, 9 months and 1 day. For many years he successfully operated this farm in the "Glades" section, and despite ill health continued to direct its management until a short time ago. During the past few months however, he has been assisted by his son, Nathan Glotfelty. On October 17, 1907 he married Miss Sarah Isabel Casteel, only daughter of the late T. W. Casteel, of Oakland, Md. Surviving besides his wife, are a son, Nathan Glotfelty, at home, three daughters, Josephine H. Glotfelty, Cumberland, Mrs. Raymond (Isabel C.) Klotz, near Bittinger, and Lucille Glotfelty, at home, a brother, F. Josephus Glotfelty, near Bittinger, three sisters, Mrs. Martha Ferguson, Fairmont, W.Va., Mrs. Eva Cottrel, Wolf Summit, W.Va., and Mrs. Ida Friend, Friendsville, and one grandson, Wesley Klotz. Mr. Glotfelty united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Hoyes many years ago and remained a faithful and devout member until his death. The Rev. R. L. Greynolds, pastor of the Friendsville church, conducted funeral services from the home at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Interment was in the family cemetery under the supervision of William Winterberg, local mortician. Six nephews of the deceased served as pallbearers, namely, Lawrence, Ernest and Emmett Friend, Kermit, Elwood and Orville Glotfelty. Among those from a distance who came to attend the rites were Mrs. Harrison Wiley, Reisterstown; Mrs. Eva Cottrel, Mary Lee Cottrel, Wolf Summit, W.Va.; Mrs. Martha Ferguson, Miss Ruth Ferguson, and Mrs. Clyde Polling, Fairmont, W.Va., Miss Ruth Ann Polling, Oakland, Mrs. Ida Friend, Friendsville, and Mrs. Samuel Stricker, Finksburg.
