Gnagey, aged 78 years and 7 months, died in the Hazel McGilvery Hospital, Wednesday morning, April 24, following an illness of about two weeks. He had been failing in health the last year. Mr. Gnagey was born in Summit Township, and was a son of Samuel and Susan Walker Gnagey. He is survived by his wife, Civilla Saylor Gnagey, and the following daughters: Mrs. Lloyd Schrock, Garrett, R.D. 1; Mrs. Karl Christner, Mrs. Arthur J. Davis and Mrs. Theodore Gray, all of Meyersdale R.D. 1; and sons Milton, Dillon and Quinter of Meyersdale, and Emmert of Uniontown. One daughter, Mrs. Clyde Shumaker, preceded him in death. In addition to the children, there remain 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. During his early years, Mr. Gnagey was an outstanding farmer in Summit Township, but for the past 25 years has lived retired at his home in Trans- Meyersdale on Route 1. At the age of 16, he received Christ as his Savior, and was a loyal and faithful member of the Church of the Brethren throughout his life. His loyalty to his church led all of his children to become members of the church in which he labored. For the last 50 years, Mr. Gnagey served as a deacon of the church, and was always ready to do whatever he could to further the work of the church. He was a faithful Christian father and will be sadly missed in the home, and in the community as well. He had been especially helpful to Mrs. Gnagey who has been bedfast for the last 15 weeks. Funeral services will be held in the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren on Saturday afternoon, April 27, at 2:30 o'clock. His pastor, S. Loren Bowman, will be in charge of the service and will deliver the funeral message. Rev. J. C. Beahm, pastor of the Summit Mills Church of the Brethren, will assist in the service. Funeral arrangements are in charge of H. R. Konhaus. Meyersdale Republican, April 25, 1946
