Milton Gnagey, Meyersdale, died at her home on Beachley street Friday, August 26, after a long illness. She had been in the Hazel McGilvery Hospital for several months for treatment, and recently returned to her home. She was born October 21, 1875, in Meyersdale, the daughter of Alexander E. and Lydia (Lint) Shoemaker. She is survived by her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Witt of Akron, O., who was at her mother's side since June; a son, Major John M. Gnagey Jr., U.S. Army, Scott Air Force Base, Ill.; two grandchildren and a brother, Frank D. Shumaker, Meyersdale. Mrs. Gnagey was a sister of the late Ida Shumaker who for many years was a missionary in India. A brother, Will Shumaker, died here several years ago. She was a life-long member of the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren. Friends were received at the Price Funeral Home until Sunday afternoon when the body was removed to the Gnagey home where funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon by the Rev. I.C. Paul, pastor of the Church of the Brethren. Burial was made in Union Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, September 1, 1949
