Gnagey Sr., 88, of 1704 West Lombard Street, Baltimore, Maryland, died December 18, 1983 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Baltimore. Born in Grantsville, Maryland, he was a son of the late Gideon J. Gnagey and Mary (Warnick) Gnagey. He was the former owner and operator of the National Hotel, Grantsville and was a retired house detective for the Lord Baltimore Hotel Baltimore. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Grantsville, a 50-year member of Mountain Lodge 99, AF&AM, Frostburg; Cumberland Consistory, Scottish Rite Bodies, Ali Ghan Shrine and Woodmen of the World Camp 41, Grantsville. He was a former member of the Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department. His wife, Beulah (Bender) Gnagey, died in 1973. Surviving are two sons, Jacob R. Gnagey Jr. and Robert B. Gnagey, both of Baltimore; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Helen Hostetler, Meyersdale; Mrs. Sally Bruno, Glen Arm; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where services were conducted with the Rev. Connell Chaney officiating. Interment was in Grantsville Cemetery.
