GOMER Lewis Franklin Gomer, 63, of Hyndman RD 1, died Dec. 9, 1978 in Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md. Born in Meyersdale (Sandpatch), July 23, 1915, he was a son of the late James T. Gomer and Maude (Beall) Gomer. He was a retired railroad carman with 33 years' service, a member of the Wellersburg United Church of Christ, a World War II Army veteran of the military police, a member of John C. Tressler Post 3504 VFW, Meyersdale; a former member of the railroad batallion and a charter member of the Wellersburg Volunteer Fire Department. While serving in the military, Mr. Gomer received two Bronze Stars, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ruby (Fate) Gomer; two sons, Robert Lee Gomer, Hyndman; Lewis Franklin Gomer Jr., Meyersdale; one daughter, Janice Diane Gomer, at home; one brother, George of Meyersdale RD 1; six sisters, Mrs. Ruby Witt, Ridgeley; Mrs. Mildred Aristidour, Baltimore, Md.; Mrs. Hazel McKenzie, Ridgeley; Mrs. Laura Crissinger and Mrs. Grace Ansell, both of Meyersdale; Mrs. Edna Kennell, Wellersburg; and four grandchildren. Friends were received at the Ziegler Funeral Home where services were conducted by the Rev. Harold Crabtree. Interment, White Oaks Cemetery, Meyersdale. The New Republic, December 14, 1978 [G0776]
