Born Jan. 28, 1913, in Somerset County, son of John and Mary (Moskal) Gontis. Preceded in death by parents and a brother, John. Survived by widow, the former Justine Szymansky; daughters: Connie L., wife of Raymond Patterson, Manassas, Va.; Charlene A., wife of John Popernack III, Boswell; and Justine J., wife of Robert Neri, St. Petersburg, Fla. Also survived by four grandchildren. Brother of Sophie, wife of Peter Stets; Joseph, married to the former Anna Stetz; Genevieve, wife of George Kavar; and Victor, married to the former Mary Ann Tims, all of Boswell RD 2. Member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Boswell, Jenners Local 1742, U.M.W.A. and Boswell Post 461, American Legion. Retired miner and former employee of Buchanan Building Supply, Somerset. Veteran of World War II, served in Engineering Corps. U.S. Army. Friends received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and until 9 p.m. Friday at the Joseph G. Hoffman Funeral Home, 409 Main St., Boswell, where Wake Service will be held at 8:15 p.m. Friday. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, the Rev.
