Gontis, 78, of Gontis Lane, Boswell RD died Aug. 7, 1999 at home. Born April 17, 1921 in Jenner Township, son of John and Mary (Moskel) Gontis. Preceded in death by parents; wife of 42 years, the former Mary Ann Tims, Jan. 31, 1991; sisters Genevieve Kavar, and Sophia Stets and brothers John, Charles and Joseph. Survived by children Eugene P., married to Linda Thomas, Somerset RD; Victor J., Boswell RD; John J., married to Toni Kulka, Friedens RD; Judith A., wife of Douglas Dill, Sipesville; and Mark G., married to Deborah Milthaller, Boswell RD; grandchildren Lori (Gontis) wife of Daniel Holloway; Amy (Gontis), wife of Greg Vought; Gregory, Eric, Charles, and Clinton Gontis, Renee, Megan and Kayla Dill. Last surviving member of his immediate family. Member of All Saints Catholic Parish, VFW and DAV. Also member of Boswell Post 461 American Legion for 53 years. Seaman First Class Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific. Recipient of the American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon. Retired farmer and dealer in livestock for 50 years. Friends were received Sunday evening and will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, at Hoffman Funeral Home, Main Street, Boswell, where a vigil for the deceased will be held at 3 p.m. Monday. Funeral mass at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at All Saints Chapel, Acosta, Rev. Father Martin Breski, OFM Con. celebrant. Committal St. Joseph's Cemetery, Ralphton. Memorials to the Helping Hand Food Pantry, Boswell, Mom's House, 182 Gilbert St., Johnstown or the Salvation Army. North Center Ave., Somerset.
