Born Oct. 28, 1911, in Rockingham County, Virginia, a son of Kenneth W. and Melissa (Lamb) Gooden. Preceded in death by parents; his wife, the former Elizabeth Kathryn Robb; sons, Kenneth I., James R., and Tommy O. Gooden; two brothers and a sister. Survived by a daughter, Elizabeth F. (Gooden) James, Fairhope; a son, Barry D. Gooden, Bedford; 24 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. James was a welder at Bethlehem Steel for many years. He loved hunting and building model airplanes. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday at the Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday at Miller Cemetery, with the Rev. Paul Yanke officiating.
