GOURLEY Dr. John Coulter Gourley, aged 73 years, one of Windber's most prominent citizens and successful physicians, died Monday morning, May 16, following a brief illness. He was graduated from the school of medicine of the Western University of Pennsylvania, in 1904, and for 28 years had been roentgenologist and obstetrician at Windber Hospital. Dr. Gourley received his early education at Covode Academy, the Pennsylvania State Normal School at Indiana and Pennsylvania State College. He taught school for a number of years prior to entering medical school. He practiced medicine in Marion Center and Heilwood in Indiana County before locating at Windber in January, 1915. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Myra (Park) Gourley, and four children - Martha, wife of Dr. R. S. Baylor, Waynesboro, Pa.; Mary Jane, a teacher in the Windber schools; Dr. George Park Gourley, United States Army, Stewart Field, West Point, N.Y., and Dr. John Coulter Gourley, Jr., United States Navy, Navy Yard, Philadelphia. He is survived by one sister, Miss Jennie Gourley of Punxsutawney, and one brother, Herbert, of Whittier, Calif. He also had two half-brothers, Roy of Indiana, and Max, of Punxsutawny, and five grandchildren. Funeral services for Dr. Gourley were conducted at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning in the Windber Presbyterian Church, Rev. J. Raymond Powell officiating. Interment in Richland Cemetery.
