He was born Nov. 23, 1907 in Kingwood, W.Va., a son of the late August and Justine Grenke. He is survived by a daughter, Gloria Jean (Emerick), wife of Fay Leydig, Hyndman RD, and three grandchildren, Jena, wife of Gary Pensyl Jr., Buffalo Mills Rd, Steve, husband of Tammy (Blank) and Jerry, husband of Iris (Wentling), both of Hyndman RD; two brothers, Albert and Daniel Grenke, both of Cumberland, Md; 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In 1985, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Grace Elizabeth (Kiser) Grenke. Five brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death. Mr. Grenke worked as a B&O Railroad welder for 37 years and after retiring from the railroad was continuously employed in various capacities by Leydig family enterprises until 1996. He was a Pennsylvania forest firefighter for more than 70 years and a Pennsylvania fire warden for 46 years. He faithfully attended the Bible Gospel Church, Hyndman RD 1. Friends will be received at the Bible Gospel Church, 1 1/2 miles North of Hyndman on Pa. 96, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday. Services will be conducted at the Church by the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Fay Leydig officiating. Interment will be in Hyndman Cemetery. Service as pallbearers are Steven Leydig, Jerry W. Leydig, Gary Emerick, Gary Pensyl Jr., June Emerick and Ron Emerick. Daily American, July 21, 1998 [G0980]
