Shope, at Harnedsville Wednesday evening, May 7th, aged 41 years, 1 month and 28 days. Victor Griffith was born on the old Griffith farm near Guard, Md., March 9th, 1889, the son of Walter W. Griffith and Nancy C. Griffith. His father passed away many years ago. He moved to Confluence when a young man, and was for a number of years employed by the Atlantic Refining Company at this place, later going to Somerfield, where he was employed by the same firm. Upon leaving Somerfield he secured employment with the Curry Lumber Co. of Uniontown and moved his family to Hopwood to reside. Mr. Griffith had been suffering from an ulcerated stomach for several years, and this developed into cancer, which caused his death. He was not seriously ill until a week prior to his death, when, while assisting his brother on some work near Mill Run, Md., he was suddenly stricken. While riding a motorcycle on the National Pike near Hopwood about two years ago he met with a serious accident, from which he never fully recovered. He is survived by his wife Rebecca Wright Griffith, and seven children, Maxine, Glenn, Nancy, Dane, Dorothy, Helen and Mary Lou. He is also survived by his mother, Nancy C. Griffith, of Harnedsville, four sisters - Mrs. Zella Shope, Harnedsville; Mrs. Ethel Loudermilk, Shelbysport; Miss Bessie Griffith, Cumberland, Md., and Mrs. Eva Ringler, Confluence - and six brothers - Asa Griffith, Braddock; Ernest Griffith and Merle Griffith, Guard, Md.; Curtis Griffith, Barton, Md.; Bert Griffith, Cove, Md., and Ray Griffith, Akron, Ohio. He was a member of the Guard, Md., Methodist Episcopal Church and Sunday School. Funeral services were conducted at the Shope home at Harnedsville on Friday afternoon, Rev. Russell of the Somerfield Methodist Episcopal Church and Rev. Jamison of the Confluence Methodist Episcopal Church officiating. Interment in Addison Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Edward Whetzel, Young Shaffer, Shrive Osler, John Meyers, Glenn Brown and Clyde Bower. H. B. Rishebarger, the Addison funeral director, had charge of the funeral.
